Post-ACA, the number of new Medicaid beneficiaries rose by 10 million+ in 2015. Approximately 6.1 million of these beneficiaries are enrolled in Medicaid managed care, with about five million newly covered people enrolling in Medicaid managed care organizations (MCOs) and one million who have shifted from Medicaid fee-for-service (FFS) to MCOs due to specific efforts in some states. The use of waivers by states that are seeking to expand Medicaid will continue to promote the use of managed care.
